(12,778 posts)I know of at least one person who has suggested something similar.
"I wish we could round up fundie christians, climate change deniers, homophobes, transphobes, anti-vaxxers, right wing miltia groups and pieces of crap like this who think rape is a joke and place them in education camps with hard labor for years if need be until they change their ways.
These animals only stunt human progression and they need to be removed from society so they can't spread their hate and other bile to impressionable kids. "

I am grateful that a jury chose to hide that particularly trashy post, even if it was only 4-3.

(26,795 posts)Thanks for your vigilance, and for helping us understand our Republican brothers and sisters in their quest to be free of religious persecution right her in the U.S. of A.
I had no idea they were being persecuted with posts.
Shocked.
Really.
I am.
Might not recover.

(61,604 posts)I note that even on the privately owned message board Democratic Underground, this poster is unable to post due to having five hidden posts in recent days. In other words, the DU community has temporarily silenced this poster for breaking the rules.
i don't think that it really counts as "persecution" when an entire community rises up to shush the miscreant. My definition of persecution requires a lot of people to participate in the bad behavior, not just one. Also, I don't see anything in this example that meets the criteria Ms. Blackburn outlined as persecution. An anonymous post on a message board isn't keeping anybody from practicing their chosen religion, etc.
Certainly many worse things are said about liberals and gay folk, to name just two groups, on anonymous message boards all over the internet. By your definition, this would mean that those groups are being persecuted by these anonymous posts alone. I wonder if Ms. Blackburn would agree. Something tells me that she would not.
As a gay person and a liberal, I don't feel persecuted by mean posts by random anonymous posters on the internet. I have a higher bar for being persecuted.

(12,778 posts)Neither do I. Just pointing out that there are plenty of people who hate Christians and wouldn't mind a little persecution if they could get away with it.

(5,668 posts)the only ones I can think of is some who grew up believing Gay is a Sin (this was the last to go in my system. ) Rachel Maddow and friends I know who have been gay changed this. But the only time one could say Christians are being sandblasted is on a personal level when an Atheist walks in the room. and I don't get along with the vocal style. There are two types... there's the extreme Atheists (like Christians) and then there's the ones I can get along with. Unfortunately the vocal Atheists don't do their (and this is where I get spears thrown at me religion any good. ahem they do have a church some don't some of atheism is not religion Like Polygamy I suppose. Most Polygamists are part of a cult but many are not.

(2,741 posts)have a very small grasp of what it means to be Christian...
They thumb through their bibles to find an answer...but not having read it...the process gives them a headache...
The first act of a real Christian is to throw out the Old Testament...no one with a working brain cell believes that shit...
