during the last week I have refocused the discussion on this Bain Capital technique. What they did was legal but no one who has ever participated in this type of business behavior should be supported for anything.
Some of these companies were manufacturers of American made equipment and doing research here in the USA. They were all solvent in the beginning due to hard work and good management.
Bain came in and destroyed the companies.
I'm not sure how many times this happened I only know of a few. I would like to know how many companies were destroyed and how much was made by Bain Capital and Rmoney.

and still voted him governor. He can get away with all this because, as the article points out, he refuses to talk about the companies of Bain and refuses to release his taxes for that period of time. these articles and stories always died up here in MA. Kennedy got some legs because it happened close to the election and had the people speak directly to us. All these stories go back some years now and the media has a short memory and will ignore really covering them. Look at the latest ad. Has the media sought out the people in the ad and paraded them from one show to the next? Or has the media sought out the nursing mom and paraded her show to show?

understand the curious dynamics associated with leadership on Beacon Hill:

First--his opponent ran a lousy campaign. Good candidate, lousy campaign. Muddy message, and to make matters worse she needed WAY more money than she pulled in, and the party leadership, IMO, could have helped more than they did but I guess she was low on their priority lists. RMoney blanketed the airwaves with very expensive TV ads -- he outspent her decisively, to the point where one could say he BOUGHT the governorship. Also, she was a female candidate who, despite having a long family history in the Dem political machine, had to fight the sexism that is surprisingly present in MA politics (MA has had one of the few black senators in history but guess how many women senators we've had? Not ONE...yet, anyway).

Second--RMoney LIED. He lied, lied, lied. He got up and flat-out LIED and said that ONLY HE COULD BRING JOBS TO THE STATE. He went out into the poorer communities west of Springfield, and LIED and PROMISED the people there jobs, jobs and more jobs. He said shit like "I have friends in business, and my friends will come here and start up factories!!!" As most of us know, we ended up at "We're Number 47!!!!!!" in Job Creation, thanks to Mitt, the Governor who lived in New Hampshire and whose friends never showed up to build those factories.

Third--The Governor of Massachusetts can "matter" as much or as little as the state legislature wants that governor to matter. The Governor of MA can have his 'intentions' cut off quite smartly and at any moment by the legislature. If the leadership on Beacon Hill wants to prevent the governor from doing pretty much anything, they can. It's a "weak governor" system in that regard. If the governor is willing to work with the legislature, they can get a lot done, but the legislature can more easily bully the governor than the other way 'round.

Fourth--He only ran for one term. Why? Dubya said it best--"Fool me once....won't git fooled agin!!!" He would have been beaten like a rented mule had he tried to run again, and he knew it.

All of this shit is out there, and all of it can and will be recycled in time. No sense in peaking too soon. RMoney is giving us PLENTY of fodder on his own, with his car elevators and petty cruelties and abject cluelessness, every time he opens his mouth. The time to really focus on his history is in Sept-Oct, when the message that "Look at this asshole--look at the lousy job he did before--does anyone want that on a NATIONAL level? Of COURSE not!!!!" will need to be fresh and new and urgent.

In his standard stump speech he usually touts his business cred and the rags to riches American dream by telling the audience "I started a company that became very successful", implying he began with nothing and worked hard for his wealth the old fashioned way.

Why he named "his company" Bain Capital seems lost on the crowd.

broadcast far and wide; however, with one amendment.

Step 1, as listed states: "Borrow millions of dollars to purchase a STRUGGLING company using the company itself as collateral."

The fact that needs to be broadcast is, most, if not all, of Bain's targetted companies were making money, prior to Bain's involvement (that's what made them attractive in the first place).

The "struggling" part, even if true, would lend a measure of economic utility to the romney plan, as the argument goes, "the target company was headed toward failure anyway. We were attempting to save the company; but on occasion, this was not possible, so we were sought to increase shareholder value for when the company met its inevitable demise."

So I would suggest the following framing:

Step 1, as listed states: "Borrow millions of dollars to purchase an EXISTING company using the company itself as collateral."

company where he THOUGHT his position was very secure. In comes Bain Capital and within 2 days my husband and many others found themselves without a job. The media really needs to delve deeper into what Bain Capital REALLY is...it destroys jobs, it doesn't create them. It would be fascinating and VERY telling just how many people have lost their jobs thanks to Bain Capital.

repeated, said again and again that bankruptcy is really a taxpayer bailout. Bankruptcy is in the founding documents. Bankruptcy "protection" was their preferred solution instead of the old English "debtor's prison" . It usually, ultimately involves taxpayers making up the difference. That is the fact that should be most prominent in the whole discussion. It's socialism, almost as socialist as a nuclear plant. By the way, why are "free market" conservatives never against nuclear power, which is by necessity socialist?

Our Future In Chains: The Debtors Prison System Returns

The recent story of breast cancer survivor Lisa Lindsay being thrown in prison for a $280 medical bill that was sent in error has thankfully gone viral. It has brought much-needed attention to the insanity of reinstating the concept of debtors prisons.

I just disagree and I think it's the perfect way to show what capitalism is. To its fullest extent.

But I understand the messaging by Obama's people, though. They're arguing for regulated capitalism. That's fine and the people don't get it so just say "this ain't capitalism."
