Fox News Talking Heads Have Destroyed Intelligent Conversation

In a recent article on Truthout, Mike Lofgren explains that right wing media outlets like Fox News are designed with one intention – distracting and misinforming the public. But more importantly, Fox is responsible for the violent rhetoric that is inspiring killers.

The recent tragedy at a Louisiana movie theater is a prime example. The murderer, John Houser, was an ardent viewer of Fox News, and was unhinged to the point that he blamed the government for all of his ills in life. His failed businesses, his failed marriage, his failed therapy sessions – all of these were the fault of the government, because that’s who Fox News told him to blame.

Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

This is what was in the thoughts of the original founders of the John Birch Society and Koch's funding of the Heritage Foundation as well as other Control the Message Groups.

With the continuation of the dumbing down of all Education, critical thinking has taken a hike. Relatives that left Germany before 1940 expressed concern about what they saw as hate speech and low and behold Hitler and his cohorts won the day,and the rest is for the History Books.

One of the thousands of Nazi evil geniuses (or just plain thugs) Prescott Bush ferreted into the U.S. under the guise of Operation Paperclip was Otto von Bolschwing, a psych warfare expert who worked with Goebbels during the Third Reich.

This is important because von Bolschwing didn't just settle down as a recluse in Escondido, CA, as so many of his colleagues did; he quickly got to work on influencing U.S. politics itself. To that end, he trained Helena von Dam (widely believed to have talent scouted Ronald Reagan - who btw earned his first government paycheck by doing radio ads extolling the Paperclip program); von Dam later trained Lee Atwater; and Atwater, of course, trained Karl Rove.

All of whom were also, as you may know, vocal advocates of setting up a single-minded, well-funded propaganda vehicle with the ultimate goal of making it the only major "news" source in the country.

Three guesses at which one they decided on.

Been racking the Grey matter for this info. Remember our Rellies who left Germany before WWII telling stories about Bolschwing and von Dam. Had the misfortune of having one of my GrandFathers Cousins being a high ranking member of the SS. And to this day, none of the old Uncles and Aunties that remain will utter her name even though she is in a family photo from the early 1900 time frame.

Do remember Atwater and another Republican mouth piece ascribing to the total elimination of the two party system as we know it. History sometimes reminds one of I have seen this thing before and I will never let this happen again.

I have a couple such characters myself (a great-grandfather who served as a double agent during the Russian Civil War, an uncle who married the daughter of a Danish collaborationist, and even a great-great-great grandmother who was one of Vittorio Emmanuele's mistresses), but nothing quite as interesting as that!

Here's to the black sheep. They make family histories so much more interesting.

family history a few years ago, and, bam, there she was. The old Girl was one of Adolph's film and document group. Like you say, family trees can be scary. Found reference to this person in a book by a retired CIA fellow, interesting to say the least. Kind of reminds one of the character Hilga.

The one whose father was a Danish collaborationist, although she herself wasn't a bad person (God rest her, she fell ill and died 5 years ago). The man left Denmark with almost $3 million (1945 dollars!); but his sons drank through most of it, alas.

The clip's headline is far more accurate than either the video clip or Lofgren's article on Truthout.

Fox News Talking Heads Have Destroyed Intelligent Conversation

The fact is that nearly all conversation has been dumbed down and tainted by Fox News. Those who steer clear of Fox may have avoided the very worst of the rants, disinformation, stupidity, scapegoating, and vitriol, but it would be a mistake to feel too smug if you're getting your news from another corporate source. On the contrary, other sources are all that more insidious, precisely because they aren't so glaringly obvious.
