This New Catholic Election Video is the Most Pretentious Thing We’ve Ever Seen

Good lord, this commercial is ridiculous! Remember voters, your ballot cast in the coming election will be recorded for all eternity! The pope says so!

On a side note, why go to the trouble of producing a $50,000 commercial and then phone it in on the actual pen that lady is voting with? A clicky Bic? Really?

I would like to think the people I grew up with would be unaffected by it.

they can count on the vote of people so easily duped. Politicians who care nothing about the poor, the disabled, the elderly, the innocent victims of our wars of choice, according to these folks deserve to be voted into office as long a they claim they are "pro-life" and "pro-marriage."

Fools.

flames - branding irons - really? One would think they would not want to use those images, given their history? What next, evocations of "the Faithful" slaughtering the First Peoples?

on edit - is there any chance this is some sort of farce? Ad-busters? I didn't go to link - but it's sssoooooo over the top it's hard to believe it's real?

more progressive these days! Yeah, that's the ticket! They'll forget about all our patriarchal bullshit we've been peddling for hundreds of years! They'll forget the Catholic Church supported the anti-suffragism movement, and that if the Church had it's way, that woman wouldn't be voting AT ALL!" *high fives all around*

Fucking bastards.

lol

That ad is ridiculous. How many people believe that when they get to the pearly gates that God or St. Peter will break out their voting record? "In 1980 you voted for Reagan! Goodbye!"

It's idiocy. And it's hypocritical to put "freedom" right after "marriage." If you don't have the freedom to marry who you want you are not free. If a woman isn't free to decide to what she can do with her body, she is not free. If a person is not free to control their reproduction they are not free and neither is their unwanted child. And if an American isn't free to live within the religion they choose or none at all, they are not free!

The best part of that ad is it starts with what people actually care about... jobs , economy, etc. But the ad ends with what the fundamentalists care about. Fear, hatred, bigotry, and their preferred form of religious oppression (their form, not someone else's of course).

It's BS and over the top. Vote for our guy or you're going to hell is so fundamentalist that I wonder if they realize that they are no different than the sheiks and mullahs they claim to be against. It's anti-freedom.
