It looked to me like he had been masked in, but it's probably because it was Kimmel's camera on the press riser, and it was focused on him instead of Trump. He did do a very good job of getting himself down front like that- Maybe they had an intern go sit in the seat before the place really filled in, and hold it for him while he was out working the crowd.
