As if it wasn't obvious anyway.
But it is fun to watch him twist himself into a pretzel to answer the questions.

(704 posts)But apparently "social" security is not a socialist program either and apparently Bernie wants to control the means of production because "that hasn't come up yet".
Matthews is such a tool. It's embarrassing to watch.

(2,471 posts)That was for 15 credits.
If you want to go further back my dad paid 900 total for undergrad and med school in the late 40 to early 50s.
As I've said repeatedly, before Reagan a minimum wage job could pay for a college education, after Reagan that would be a pipe dream.

College, BA '74 to '76....work study, partial scholarship, Seattle - I was MAKING 900.00 a month and paying for school costs, from that, no problem.
Same with '77 to '79 for Master's....
Graduated with zero debt. All grants and scholarships, because once you got in on a grant, if you made high grades, you got scholarships.
Have no idea when the colleges got so greedy.

(41,131 posts)in the 1970s was $200-300 per semester. Books maybe $100. Apt. rent $150.
The Univ. of CA system had Free Public Colleges, for 100 years, before Reagan killed it.
Pres. Lincoln set up the many affordable LAND GRANT Colleges in the US.
Even graduate school at a private university in a major US city was about $600 tuition per semester, late 70s- early 80s.
Five of us boomers, most 3rd gen. college- had NO STUDENT DEBT when we left school and there were good jobs & careers. Plenty.
What has been manipulated to starve the US middle class and young people in favor of more profit is shocking over 35 years.
Things must change, now. Hard turn LEFT. The only way--

(65,340 posts)Here at the University of Kansas, in-state tuition for 12 credits (= minimum for full time enrollment) cost $360/semester, but then you could take as many more credits as you wanted to at no extra cost. I used to enroll in 22-28 credits per semester for $360!
Even when my son went to college here (he graduated in December of 2002), 15 credits a semester cost just $1,100. Since he had a 50% scholarship, that mean a whole 30-credit year cost him just $1,100.
Now, in-state tuition and fees at KU costs $10,802 for 15 credits.
Standard tuition = $9,123
Required campus fees = $934
(Out-of-state = $26,640.)

(41,131 posts)on MSNBC with Matthews. De B. went on and on how lucky Dems. were to have such progressive platforms and leaders. Tweety even brought up socialism and the two had a decent, fairly long talk with NONE of this Anger and contempt. Yet NO MENTION OF BERNIE, not once in the entire session.
The pitch to cop Bernie's progressive message is clear now, even in the recent campaign speeches.

(704 posts)Hillary will sell herself as a progressive to the progressives.
She will not govern that way.
The next time a true progressive runs people will roll their eyes and say, "Yeah--saw what that looks like."
I'd rather she just be upfront and honest about who she is and how she will govern. That has started to slip a bit as she gets closer to the nomination. And I hope it does. Don't govern like a centrist under the PROGRESSIVE banner. Admit who you are and what you're doing.
I hope that is what happens ultimately. People need to know the difference--otherwise the word--the movement will lose steam and meaning in the minds of a lot of people.

(1,642 posts)It's the proverbial moving of the goalpost. It's what the "third-way" does.
Obama has repeatedly tried to sell himself as a "progressive." In this video, he refers to the TPP as being "progressive."
Most of the time, Obama attempts to make logical arguments for his points of view. But not on this subject. Here he talks about his belief in it and that we should accept his word for it without logical argument.
One can tell from his body language that he does not believe what he's selling, and neither do I.
This election, we have a chance to take a yuuuuge step toward getting the big money out of politics. But, only if people vote for Sanders. Clinton is bathed in it and all the corruption that it brings.

(5,069 posts)is the immensely popular State Senator Jamie Raskin. Also a law professor, he's not accepting corporate donations - entirely grass roots funded. Knew him when I lived in Md.; Maryland would be lucky to have him as their 8th District Congressman. Raskin's endorsements include at least The Sierra Club, the NEA, Progressive Neighbors, and limitless state politicos.
