(9,298 posts)I feel very good about New York - it's a big place, and Bernie's covering it all.

(24,010 posts)He was absolutely brilliant! He is the leader who rallied people to get frakking banned in the state of NY. He talked about being all alone at first, wondering what one person could do against the power of the frakking industry to stop the devastation of the environment that he loved. Then he found out that his neighbors agreed with him and as everyone started working together, they began their campaign to end frakking. That simple, beautiful and profound message from one person's experience really hit home as the heart of the Sanders campaign.
He had more to say--wonderfully clear, articulate and powerful.
Jim Hightower was also good, in his downhome Texas persona. And Bernie gave a particularly good version of his stump speech, with a lot of detail about frakking and its toxic impacts, immediately on people and water sources, and on methane released into the atmosphere. But Bernie is always good. I never tire of hearing his talking points because it is so unusual to have a major presidential candidate talking seriously about the things that concern ME. I have a feeling of being startled every time. Can this really be happening? Can there really be a major candidate who is running WITHOUT CORPORATE MONEY and saying the things he is saying? Am I dreaming?
Been around a long time. Remember seeing the JFK vs Nixon debates on black and white TV. I was a California Young Democrat and a volunteer in JFK's only presidential campaign. I've heard a lot of great speeches in my time. But nothing moves me like Bernie's stump speech. It's not a great speech per se. It's the nuts and bolts of a fair political process and a fair economy. It's that there is someone saying these things AT ALL, and meaning them. After so many years of vicious Reaganite lies and bullshit, followed by Clinton "triangulation," followed by the pure thuggery of Bush, Cheney & Rumsfeld, followed by a president who has disappointed me on so many levels, Barack Obama, and having almost no one speak for my concerns during that time, it is awesome to see it now. I never expected to see it in my lifetime.

(20,453 posts)My daddy long ago worked for the Binghamton Press. I lost him when I was young, and my family has always been in the triple city area.
Shouts out to anyone reading this who also knows Greene, NY, about 12 miles from Binghamton. I have some great memories there, too.
