(9,688 posts)Because he gets right to the core of what is at stake in this election.
As he says, he knows exactly what he's talking about.
Best ad I've seen in this campaign so far.

(9,688 posts)The habit arises because there are two prominent politicians with the same last name. For me, it's 100% an issue of word economy, not sexism.

(36,058 posts)You're right that most sexists use 'Hillary' or "Killary," but you also know very well that not all 'Hillary' users are sexist.
Also, calling famous people by their first names (Bae, Kanye, Mike, Oprah) is also a common practice among both the black community and beyond.
Again, if it's not quite affection, it is definitely familiarity that's also going on with DU'ers who call Secretary of State Clinton "Hillary."
No rule has been established about the use of first names around here. The reason is "affectionate and familiarity," plain and simple. Most of us remember when we affectionately and familiarly used "Barack" and "Michelle" back in the day.
DU has been down the sexist language discussions and policing road already.
If you don't agree, try an Alert on it.

(26,355 posts)Also, there's lots of people that refer to Trump as "The Donald". And of course, I call Trump many other names, none of them nice...

(15,220 posts)If that's sexist, I'm sorry, but I have loved this man since I was a teenager. I cannot imagine that it was easy for him to leave his life behind and start over.
I love that he is willing to give his perspective, especially given all of the Trump ties to Russia.

(9,688 posts)Not just the manliness part (though there is for sure that, too : ) ). But also a piercing intelligence and awareness that just radiates from him
And he really knows what he's talking about re the Soviet parallels. Everyone should heed his words. He is absolutely right.

(15,220 posts)You're absolutely correct. Yes, absolutely a "piercing intelligence".
I can't imagine anyone better to know the Soviet parallels and perils. He IS absolutely right.
