(15,882 posts)two people in the same party.
The day he joined the Democrats the fight was over, just like they told the IWW members who were joining the traitors in the Business Union of the AFL. That helped marginalize and kill off the IWW.
Now they still have offices, and mostly nobody listens. Which is too bad, because inequality and racism was what they were fighting too. They still meet but mostly nobody cares.
Same thing happened here.
You don't change them from the inside, that's called being co-opted.You fight them from the outside, else you quit.

(2,065 posts)While I was watching the talking heads on CNN covering the election. "Horse race, Horse race, MFing Horse race!" I screamed as I turned off the TV set. The issues were not even visible for miles around. And then I thought of Bernie, and how right he was that we need to focus on the issues, and NOT the horserace.
I can sympathize with some of you who have responded here in that Bernie sure made the wrong decision when he chose to run as a Democrat. If he had known then what he, and every good progressive who has been paying attention, knows now, about what the DNC did to subvert and sideline his campaign - and yes, to co-opt him and his ideas on the issues, I feel that he definitely would have run as an independent. That was a heckuva lot of human energy wasted, or at least so it seems. But on the bright side, the travesties and offenses against democracy that were made in the process of sidelining Bernie made it increasingly clear and transparent that we don't have a healthy, functioning democracy in our country anymore. And maybe enough people will finally wake up.
If the presidential election has been trivialized into nothing more than a horse race, then where it's really at is probably as Bernie says - the vast sea of government and legislative posts that are available all across this great nation. If the horses that are racing have to run their race in a sea of mighty progressives, then the sea will be in charge of the horse race.

(2,150 posts)And remember too, that even if he had run as an Independent, he, you and me are not members of the Oligarchy. And that my dear makes the real difference because beyond the Democratic Party are super wealthy organizations dedicated to contorting politics to serve
them, and not us.

(960 posts)and voted for him in the FL primary. This sounded like a great idea so I clicked to join... and was asked for money off the bat. Don't know enough about it still but that stopped me in my tracks. And then, in little writing is the "this will be a monthly charge to your account" bullshit. I am sooooooo pissed. They have us coming and going, damnit!
