between leaked memos and recorded meetings and the occasional live mike that wasn't supposed to be. A political party had crossed the line into racketeering and no one was politely ignoring it any more. It was right out front for all to see.

Or not.

The Supreme Court used to consider the motives of lawmakers before which is how tons of racist crap was eliminated.

It wasn't until the recent crap of trying to portray the Founders as inspired by God that there was this effort to try to infer their motives. This benefits Republicans as the Founder's original intent was that only rich land owners of their class, race and sex could vote.
