(19,768 posts)should decide who will be president.
The knee-jerk Paul haters here and in the establishment parties, and indeed every American, should pay attention to this.
The link between the political parties and the media is laid bare here, and to act as blind puppets, so easily led and manipulated by this blatant and clearly hypocritical establishment machine, is the true danger to our nation and our freedom.

(7,875 posts)Should be fun to watch- But if he gets the nomination -or runs as an independent as he's threatening to- I think the Republicans are underestimating his electability in the general election. Especially since there are quite a few likely Democratic voters who are disillusioned with Obama, and who are impressed enough with Paul's 'End the Empire' talk, and his 'Get Money Out of Politics' talk that they'll look past all the other crazy shit he represents and vote for him.
For the record, I'm one of those disappointed Obama voters. I like the thought of ending the empire and getting the money out of politics, but Ron Paul's downside is too big for me. Maybe it's because of that that I'm afraid he could actually win, because I think there are a good many people on the far left who like the same things I like about him and may not know or care about the rest.

(1,325 posts)If Ron Paul wins, it gives him a bump but he doesn't have the big money backers and he still has Newt and Perry and Romney to deal with.
If Santorum wins (really? come on!) then yeah Iowa has gone off the rails or the rethugs have rigged the system. What a puff piece this guy has been on in the past week!
Winning Iowa didn't help Huckabee enough to win it all. It helped Obama and Hillary, though. I think Iowa Democratic voters are more centrist/left of center and more aligned with regular Americans than Iowa Republicans. Iowa Republicans are either lunatics or so damn cynical they wouldn't lead a dog to water even if the dog had just run in the desert.
To summarize, Iowa doesn't matter if you a Rethugican. Iowa does matter if you're a Democrat.
and the iowa caucus, and the republicans

(367 posts)Isn't change the reason why most of us voted for Obama? Tired of the same old thing?
I personally think he has some extreme flaws, but the republican party is in a huge need of an overhaul. They are so set in their ways it is like they are made out of the same cookie cutter. I know Ron Paul draws people away from the democratic party, but the republican party needs change. Not necessarily in a Ron Paul direction, but disagreement will hopefully lead them to look at what the people actually want. Perfect example of this is every new front runner plummets shortly after the general public looks at them seriously.
