Had the heroic Smedley Butler not blown the whistle on the 1934 coup attempt, it might have succeeded - and God help us if it had.

That in a sense is what Trump represents today: a coup attempt by other means, done on behalf of the most deplorable - and un-American - elements in our society.

Thank you for that, OxQQme. It's as timely know as it ever was.
