My husband said he read on the Internet that we should start wearing safety pins as a secret sign to Black and other minority people that we will help protect them from racist attacks by rightwing Trump supporters. I saw that item from the Southern Poverty Law Center suggesting that we go up to minority people under attack, pointedly ignoring the ranting racist, engage them in friendly conversation, and maybe walk them to a safe place. Is some group promulgating the safety pin sign? And what are the details on that? Does anybody know?

I am just not good at finding things on the Internet. I see now that there is a cautionary side to this. Not to elt it become a substitute for action.
