(13,869 posts)I think it is a symbol of something in America. A symbol of racism, hate and the deluded idea that the people who were in charge of things in 1860 are re-asserting their control.
I have a bumper sticker on my car of a rebel flag with an eraser going across and removing about a third of it; the label under says: ERACISM
It gets me a few horns and middle fingers, and even a couple of uncomfortable tailgates by old pickup trucks, but it also gets me the occasional thumbs up and smile.

(13,869 posts)I just bought one and slapped it on.
It was created by an interesting guy by the name of Tom Turnipseed. An attorney, he was George Wallace's SC campaign manager in 1968 and admitted to being an ardent racist. By the mid-70s he had seen some things practicing law and changed his outlook. To make amends, he became a Life Member of the NAACP and, now in his 80s, has been an outspoken radical progressive since.
There is hope for the most misguided people out there.
