Toobin: "Does Anybody Believe Trump Fired Comey Because He Was MEAN To Hillary Clinton?"
Well, yes, actually.
Probably 50% of the Republican voter base is kicking in the cognitive dissonance overdrive, and believing that that's the reason.
For the OTHER 50% of the Republican voter base, Fox News is desperately spinning cover story number TWO. Cover story number two is that Comey was not fired for his treatment of Clinton...but rather for his testimony to the Intelligence Committee the other day, where he said Huma Abedin had forwarded 'hundreds of thousands' of (classified) emails to Weiner's computer, and then had to retract it. That was, apparently, the straw that broke the camel's back.
Cover story number three (also being spun by Fox) is that he was fired because Rosenstein was only confirmed a few days ago, and he only just got around to writing his little memo TODAY.
Cover story number four is that he fired Comey as an excuse to write a letter where he could claim that Comey had told him (three times) that he wasn't under investigation. (And Comey is not allowed to contradict that without violating Executive Priv.)
And after having run through all four of those cover stories, Trump acting like NIXON on CRACK has probably cost him the support of 5% of the Republican voter base. *Sigh*

Trump & the Republican cabal's actions are NOT normal and NOT those of an innocent party. Good grief, they're even making Nixon look like a friggin lightweight and Watergate look almost like garden party in comparison and that takes some doing.
Sadly a hefty chunk of Trump supporters are so drunk on the spiked grape Flavor Aid he sold them that they're blind to the 'yuge' red elephant doing a strip and lap dance in the middle of the room.
