decided that the Russians should suffer the first winter after communism fell to "be sure it is dead". After starvation, they turned back to an autocratic government.
It should be said in every discussion of Putin that he is there partly because Bush Sr. and the MIC needed a boogey man so we'd choose guns over children.

I was in high school in the 80's, we were pretty politically aware even then
