(2,272 posts)done indeed! And he was totally correct. You know..... I can remember a time when we had anti-trust laws in this country. We're fast approaching the point of having robber barons again.

(10,497 posts)I started my own DJ business with a couple of friends at age12. We played our local YMCA dances for kids our own age. We started out doing it because of girls of course, but we all loved music. I eventually bought out the other two guys and added to my sound system and record collection. It was the best gig ever! I played weddings, school dances, pool parties, whatever. I eventually played night clubs and a little radio work too. I gave it up when I got licensed to practice law, dumb mistake Lol. It paid my way through it all and I brought joy and happiness for many, but none more than myself.
Tom Petty was a real great man! I remember another fight he had with his own record company. They wanted to raise the price of LP's starting with one of his new releases. He objected, but it was in the contract that the price was determined by the company. I do not remember the actual price for sure, but I believe they went to $8.99. Since he could not control the price he looked at what he could control under the contract. He could call the album whatever he wanted to he said the title of this new release would be "$7.99" in big numbers across the front. The company relented, if only for a while. He was my hero since to be the best I had always made sure I spent a huge amount to stay current in all types of music!

Michele Bachmanns 2012 campaign used American Girl when she would walk out
Tom Petty threatened legal action if she didnt stop using his work.
He issued a cease and desist letter to George W. Bush when the Republican candidate used I Wont Back Down in his campaign appearances. After receiving the letter, Bush backed down.
I remember seeing him on stage and he was being chased during a song by people in Nixon, Reagan and George Bush masks. He was wearing his big top hat and did a good job of looking terrified of them
