Is poverty in the United States about to balloon? Economist and author, Prof. Richard Wolff gives us a peak at what is to come with the rising inequality we are seeing and how unstable this all is!

(11,119 posts)and that the depths of poverty will get deeper. Many of the social programs that existed in the 70s and 80s to help people/families get a leg up (food subsidies, heating subsidies, clothing subsidies/vouchers) don't exist anymore or are mere shadows of what they used to be.
Also, and this is speculation on my part, impoverished Americans in rural communities are suffering in silence because no one can see they are doing without and therefore there is no outreach to them.
In addition, because a lot of American jobs are going away due to automation, young people, of all classes, need to be better informed about their career pursuits.

(2,479 posts)I heard it earlier. Worst in history and all we hear about on the news is Russia and how Trump's tax cuts were so great that suddenly companies who were already fantastically profitable can suddenly raise wages a pittance, and give a bonus, even though they clearly could have been doing that for years.

The thing I don't get about their plan is what happens when the majority of people in the US can't afford their now cheap "made in china" crap. Not everyone is educated enough to have white collar or even regular office jobs.

This when the problem with charities is that they provide cover for the social policies of the GOP.
