I will add a bit here: there's a dual barrel from the right, overwhelmingly obvious from a few years of forced camaraderie (ahem) from the "that there book-larnin' don't do you no guud" (actual quote) (facepalmed myself at 12 years old)...
Here's the caveat I'll add though, to my fellow "intellectual elitists".
There's a far more subtle non-outreach, entitled chip on the shoulder of many of the (PhD's... I won't further specify) I've had the pleasure of dealing with. Not only did the economics change radically for obtaining higher levels of education over a decade, circa Reagan era, that my own oft-belittled "associates degree" cost nearly as much as a bachelor's or even higher, all around cost-wise a decade earlier, with wages nearly stagnant. There are many of the Gen-Xer's and beyond may have far exceeded the social change factor necessary to head off our latest political disaster,had it not been for the most entitled of all: The doctors who followed in daddy's footsteps, on daddy's money, and don't really give two rat's asses about... Okay, I'll just leave it there. Take it from one who's seen, who rejected the offer to be paid to take the classes of a certain dastardly elitist who... might be doing surgery on YOU someday. (and not very well, I might add).
