(27,461 posts)I'm glad they both are at least paying lip service, hopefully more, although at the same time it is funny to see them out there looking at corn.

(3,121 posts)Romney visited an Iowa farm alright--- of a multi-millionaire real estate mogul/farmer who owns dozens of farms. He also lives in a space ship house and owns a personal car wash.

What kind of a farmer has a personal car wash for his pickup?

Which explains why his corn looks so healthy.
But whereas Obama manages to looks presidential even in a corn field, Mitt looks, well, lost in the woods...

(2,142 posts)While I agree that the field Romney looked at is not nearly as drought damaged and the one Obama visited, the corn in the Romney field is not particularly healthy either.
And while it is POSSIBLE that he has an irrigation system, there is VERY little irrigation used in Iowa, so I would say that chances are high that it is not.

(11,084 posts)The cornfield Romney visited looked great--green and lush. He had to pretend he was concerned about drought, with no evidence of it in sight.

(2,142 posts)looked at is obviously much more dry and damaged (it looks horrendous, in fact!). But the Romney corn is not necessarily healthy either. Generally, most healthy corn is a darker, richer green and is taller than the corn shown in the pics. So while it is easily not as drought ravaged as the Obama corn, it most likely is not unharmed by the drought.
Here in the corner of Iowa where I live, most of the corn looks similar to the Romney corn. We are in a severe drought, and believe me, the corn is affected. A large area of the state is in extreme drought. I don't remember where the Romney visit was located, but the Obama visit is in an area that is in extreme drought. (Also, different varieties of corn handle the drought differently - some are not as drought resistant as others.)
The Romney visit is still a joke because of who the farmer was though!
