20. I think Dems are being setup for a pre-midterm dilemma

This budget expires Sept. 30th. I believe that the GOP leaders will "hear the people's outrage" and try to "fix the budget" with major cuts to social programs, boarder wall funding, a "DACA solution", and other right-wing goodies right before the midterms. DEMs will resist naturally, which will heighten shutdown worries in voter minds. The GOP will pounce, and try to use the "DEM shutdown threat" to bring swing voters to their side, with only a month before voters go to the polls.

The GOP will try to force DEM leaders to make a choice:
a) swallow the poison pill(accept the budget) and piss off your voters, thereby lowering progressive voter turnout
b) resist the bill and thereby threaten/cause a shutdown, which would piss off swing voters who don't want any hits to the economy for any reason.

Call me cynical, but the expiration on this "victory" has wonderful timing for the GOP's midterm hopes. In addition, I've been conditioned to expect the worse, most diabolical actions from McConnell and Ryan.

So why did the republicans let this pass? I haven't followed the details, but if the GOP is so against this budget, why wasn't there more resistance? They've made a big stink about much smaller issues in the past, many, many times.

He might have seen all the kids and their allies. We couldn't have that.

As it was, they took the scenic route to Mar-A-Lago to avoid the protesters in Florida.

They're scared and so is Trump. I really don't see any other explanation, except for, as you said, Mar-A-Lago.

They're scared! See how duplicitous they are, they know what they OUGHT to be doing for their electorate's lives to get better, and to get in their favor. They're turning from the extreme supporters and trying to appeal to the more moderate Republicans because they're afraid they'll swing to Dems in November. Gawd they stink something awful.

I don’t care about their rhetoric, the lest time the federal budget was was balanced was the 1830s and it created a depression. Intelligent Republicans realize it.

If you mean that the last time the country had no debt, that's different than a balanced federal budget.

A budget is yearly, debt is accumulated over time.

Two things:
1. Repugs feared a backlash against drastic spending cuts before mid-terms, perhaps putting the last nail in their coffin toward losing control of both chambers.

2. It's sinister, but some simply may not care about the federal debt because it can actually accelerate the demise of the federal government down the road.

So, I'm not convince this is something to celebrate. Perhaps short-term victory but more long-term pain considering their tax cuts.

But if there are any brains in the r. party, or behind it, or in russia, they could have passed this bill, so that they can attack SS and Medicare sooner rather than later.

Also, tripe's inner circle might be thinking if he sides with Dems, the Mueller investigation will go away.

Or, tripe himself might think signing the bill is equivalent to shooting someone on 5th Ave. and he'll finally lose his base.

it as a Trump budget. The fact that its going to last until just before the election shows that they are worried and they realize cutting taxes only improves the economy only for the wealthiest. Cutting government services only hurts everybody else.

We can begin to fix this in November, along with all the special elections until then.
