I do like the idea of a campaign built around the fixing of an area. As perhaps a center piece concept. Neighbor helping neighbor.

Part of a disaster clean up
Project would have to be large enough to be noticed and have large enough impact to rally folks????

When I've heard how many millions were raised for a specific campaign, my first thought has been "how many could that much money feed?" But this is another good example.
