Trump forcing Mattis out by New Year's Day

CNN's Barbara Starr reports that James Mattis is being forced to leave earlier than planned, and President Trump has announced that the Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan will become the acting Secretary of Defense on January 1st, 2019.

Before he even turned in his resignation letter. He knows what we all know: Trump is vindictive, petty, juvenile, and has been cruel in firing others before, leaving the timing to be the very worst for those being fired. Pensions dissolved, left stranded across the country with no way to get home, etc.
