Modern consumer society relies on a fantastically complex web of transport, technology, commerce, and communications that no individual in that society completely understand and very few individuals are even really aware of. Disruptions to that network (which, again, no one person entirely understands) can have rapid and catastrophic impacts.

has a family leaving the city and going out to the country where they have to now live without electricity. It did an excellent job of connecting things (hence the name of the series) in unexpected ways.
