(28,932 posts)3. I have camped down in the NM bootheel. There is basically two main roads that go north from there
One goes through Animas and one goes through Hachita. We were stopped twice by the border patrol on that trip because it's super easy to spot vehicles on the two roads. BP was all over the place and that was back in the 1990's.

Its where a lot of the shuttles from AZ going to Chihuahua cross. Avoids the Highway 2 pass above El Valle.
