3. This is the worst of both worlds. Jerry! Come on.

The whole point of impeachment hearings is to get facts out to the public. That means you need every tool you have to get the media onboard to cover them.

And THAT means you should have a splashy kickoff and you should be hyping each hearing.

Dems haven’t wanted to impeach because they’re afraid of angering the GOP base. And so this quiet impeachment is the worst of both worlds: no advantages of the PR effort and STILL angering GOP donors.

I really really really really really wish Dems were better at manipulating the press to their advantage.

This whole song and dance is to convince a court that they should be given grand jury information because they’re essentially acting as a grand jury themselves and need it for their deliberations. That necessarily must include the fact that they will keep the information secret unless and until they decide to recommend an indictment (impeachment)

If they admit what you (I think correctly) assume, the court won’t let them have it.

The legal argument applies for public impeachment hearings just as much as for secret hearings.

15. I disagree... but it doesn't matter because that isn't their argument

A large portion of their request for those materials documents the protocols that Nadler has set up " protocols to protect the confidentiality of any grand jury materials disclosed to the Committee"

5. Now that the House has the numbers in favor of impeachment, they can vote for the Inquiry.

A court would understand this process and not impugn its integrity.

A majority of House Democrats support impeachment, but that still constitutes a minority (obviously zero Russiapublicans support impeachment).

7. But with Nancy's signal, the rest will fall in line if an official vote's needed. Thus, a majority.

But yes, you're correct about the numbers. We're getting there.

8. I think hearings, if well-conducted, get the public and Members ready to remove Pres Turd.

With or without a vote in the House, and recognizing that Moscow Mitch will kill it. But moving the public to demand removal will definitely help in 2020.

Her position really hasn't changed. She's trying to keep both sides of the party split happy at the same time while simultaneously keeping the options open if public opinion shifts and/or more damaging information comes to light... while also avoiding forcing reluctant Democrats to put their name on something that could hurt both their electoral chances, and her chances of retaining the speakership.

Her speakership.

Her goal is to make sure Dems are in control of at least one house of Congress in 2020. She’s right that that is vital but I am just less risk averse than her.

She doesn’t want to win a short-term victory of little value at the cost of lasting damage. Reid’s mistake.
