Why watch this? Well, obviously corporations play a very large role in modern life. Much of what goes on is not in the mainstream, (corporate media anyone?) and a lot of information that we get can be misleading and myopic based on those interests. Consider news as profitable and also a useful facade and then it might hit home.
If we don't understand the mechanisms and structure of our current world and lifestyle, then that leaves something vague or nebulous that allows us to either ignore it or fill in what our biases and expectations imagine and that is not going to help us grasp the impact, change the paradigm or mitigate the consequences. Since our business, economy and politics, (as well as our future) are influenced by the profit and power of major corporations, having a clearer picture helps us make sense of it all and respond more appropriately in general, even if we already have a feel for the essential aspects of this or intuit the danger.
This documentary, (based on the book) is high quality and very well done, IMHO. It is a must see. It is very relevant.
Based on Joel Bakans bestseller The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power, this 26-award-winning documentary explores a corporations inner workings, curious history, controversial impacts and possible futures. One hundred and fifty years ago, a corporation was a relatively insignificant entity. Today, it is a vivid, dramatic, and pervasive presence in all our lives. Like the Church, the Monarchy and the Communist Party in other times and places, a corporation is todays dominant institution. Charting the rise of such an institution aimed at achieving specific economic goals, the documentary also recounts victories against this apparently invincible force.

(2,541 posts)This is a very good documentary. The case for corporations being psychopaths is laid out very well.
The segments on the privatization of water and the contortion of the 14th amendment to give corporations legal status were informative & disheartening.
