Dr Hatchett, Corona-virus expert...

"Dr Richard Hatchett, who advised both the Bush and Obama administrations on pandemic preparedness called the coronavirus "the most frightening disease" he has ever seen, based on both the high rate of infectiousness and lethality. He compared it to the Spanish Flu of 1918 which killed tens of millions."

"Also noteworthy, Dr. Hatchett mentioned that the United States is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 because of a lack of a centralized health system that other advanced industrialized nations enjoy, both in terms of mobilizing an effective response from the various government agencies, state and federal, and also the excessive costs. People will go untreated because they simply can't afford it here."

because they can't afford to take any time off in quarantine and you know the fucking nitwit Republicans won't bother to do anything about tha;t unless it's really punitive.

So even if the CDC and universities and Gates Foundation all rush test kits out, many people in this country are not going to be counted, the virus will spread, and the death rate will be far higher than in countries with sensible health care.

Other nations will handle this. We won't.

and political functions. What must we do lock these people up. Dr is right older people are at risk he doesn't shake hands with his older colleagues because he does not want to be responsible for their deaths. Right now we have members of the medical community that are sick from exposure to patients. What will it take to get people to think of others here? The pandemic potential is great.

with my sister. People in the US are more self absorbed and less considerate of others. People in Japan wear masks when they have colds, etc because they don't want to infect others. We would never do that here, besides, too many people are vain and care more about their appearance in a mask than infecting others. But that is just my opinion.

11. The tale of two countries, something doesn't jive

Looking at the latest numbers coming out of China & S. Korea I'm seeing quite a difference in morbidity rates. China at 2.5 -3% & S. Korea at well under 1%. Either S. Korea is dealing with a mutated form of the original or they are under reporting the deaths or over reporting the cases. China's numbers follow what other countries are experiencing pretty close. Both China and south Korea seem to have peaked as the number of new cases have slowed, especially in China which is good news, also China has emptied out most of its emergency hospitals constructed last month. I have a feeling its not going to go as well in this country.

They were both hit hard. I don't trust any govt's reported rates at this point, especially ours. I wonder what Putin will order tRump to do next.
