Related: About this forumHow the government delayed coronavirus testing
So, why was the federal government so aggressive in preventing other labs from developing tests? Especially under the Trump administration where pretty much anything goes as far as regulation? Heck, there was even a policy for relaxing FDA regulations to increase testing capacity following the Zika outbreak in 2015. To make matters worse, the federal government is again pulling back support for testing even as COVID-19 deaths continue to grow.
It is almost as if Trump did not want to see any COVID-19 test results back on January and still wants to artificially lower the number of reported cases.

Property value needs to be high to get funding, his numbers go up.
Taxable values need to be low to get a tax break, his numbers go down.
Always.

The only way to keep score on the virus is by testing, mass testing. The general public is in the dark otherwise, having no compass or generally recognized goal. I have long thought this suits the purpose of some, like kicking an anthill. In the immortal words of Bartcop,"if someone profits from a mistake, expect them to repeat the mistake again and again".
