(6,820 posts)If they want to show parasites, then show parasites. There are plenty of them in nature. Half-assedly assembled photos and films with the dramatic speaker fomenting emotional stuff. This crap may be good enough for a bunch of low-info "conservatives" but I'm a little insulted that they are on my side. And yes, Lindsey IS a parasite. But so is mistletoe. Show me ticks and leeches and lampreys and tapeworms and humanity. I prefer my parasites scientifically accurate. I wax rantly.
When one is at war, in the trenches, facing the enemy, it is helpful to look to your left and right from time to time. A thorough examination may sometimes reveal that you're enemies and allies are essentially identical.

(36,053 posts)I take little comfort that they give us nutty edge optics, as if we think that's the only way we can reach right wing voters.
If effort like this animalizing of our opponents continues, it might backfire on the party. I've seen them acquire these presentation and editing tactics with Joe and other Democrats.
This is what fascists do when they discredit targets -- it was done to Jews, Armenians, Bosnians and Africans. Fomenting these visuals in a political contest in the West is not good for this party.

(90,674 posts)Sometimes they aim straight at Trump, i.e. audience of one, in an effort to rattle him, and use just the DC market.
Other times they are going right after another politician, so the ad will run only in their home state. Theyre not talking to you, unless you used to vote for Lindsey G.

(36,053 posts)I'm sorting out its likely long term effects beyond the current intended target audiences you name.
It could all be forgotten, as many ad campaigns are, if we win. Maybe we can eventually dismiss it.
It could also not be forgotten if we lose. Democrats are better than the message here, and will deal with any blowback for it later, sure, but Dems shouldn't have to be in a position to have to explain or dismiss it, however well intended the message was, originally.
Just my opinion.

(90,674 posts)...to be as brutal as they want. People who wring their hands over the content need to remember that no Democrats are in the mix. Thats the beauty they (TLP) are simply not our people, and you can disavow them if you feel you must.
If this ad campaign is remembered, it will be as something done by enraged Republicans, aimed at Republicans. The talent involved is tested and quite real, and they have beaten Dem candidates many times. Now they are turning on Trump, because (as they have explicitly said) their former party is rotten to the core and Trump has to be defeated to save the country.
My general inclination is to say Thank you, and carry on. But thats just me.
jaxexpat
(6,820 posts)That may not be pertinent but I just had to say it. The visuals were too tempting. Art and all.
No mic drop here. But where could it all end when there is no overriding taste or tact? Sweeping up after a party is no party. Ever go to a janitor's party? Me neither.

(43,146 posts)The trouble I see is that you must follow politics and understand issues to understand their ads. This one doesn't explain why Lindsey's a parasite, or even very closely when/how/why he changed his tune.
To me TLP is an upper crust collection of Republican intellectuals producing ads for people like themselves and slapping each other on the back about their great content. Do they reach any uneducated white Trump MAGAts? You can't change the mind of someone you can't reach and who can't understand your message.
The quality of their ads is declining in my view.

(7,397 posts)a long time ago, in reaction to another DUer's post. I thought it was humorous and clever, but it actually rubbed the poster the wrong way big time . He called my attention to knowing my audience. He was correct. In other words, no matter how clever the ad is, if it does not achieve the desired affect it is not a good use of your money. This is borderline I think.
