Elections need to be made safe, results should come fast. If we can safely count pennies in our bank accounts, then votes can be handled with the same urgency and safety.

(64 posts)9. Results should come fast, but if they don't . . .
. . . that in itself is not a reason not to count them or to doubt them.
Trumpists will try to argue that being counted after Election Day invalidates them. That is how they will try to steal the election.

(130,895 posts)4. Top Republicans Commit to a Peaceful Transfer of Power.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/09/24/us/trump-vs-biden-election
The winner of the November 3rd election will be inaugurated on January 20th, Mr. McConnell wrote on Twitter. There will be an orderly transition just as there has been every four years since 1792. . .
Moderate Republicans, including those facing tough bids for re-election, dismissed the suggestion that there would be anything other than a peaceful transition of power, with Senator Dan Sullivan, Republican of Alaska, declaring, of course were going to have a peaceful transition of power. Were the United States of America. Were not a banana republic.
I dont know what his thinking was, but we have always had a controlled transition between administrations, said Senator Susan Collins, Republican of Maine. She said the peaceful transfer of power is a fundamental tenet of our democracy, and I am confident that we will see it occur once again.
Liz Cheney promises peaceful transfer of power: 'Fundamental to the survival of our Republic.'
