Steve Schmidt may be serious about teaming up with AOC to prevent a second Trump-like coup attempt. Should she engage?

AOC should only meet with him on her turf.

(53,792 posts)I love to hear him talk about trump and cowardly republicans. It seems however, that he's drawn to attractive, outspoken women politicians. Remember he picked Sarah Palin and the results were disastrous.

Surely that's the basis for some sort of talks?

(19,962 posts)quickly from her support of Bernie, once the primary race became clear that Biden was going to win, much to the disgust of the Bernie Bros. That gives me hope that AOC realizes that she needs to move somewhat towards the center, if she really wants to make her mark.

....or, if you want to "team up" with Mr. Schmidt, use a quote from Saint Reagan: "Trust but verify"

(3,396 posts)Theodore Roosevelt, he was a progressive. He was what any politician should strive to be, not only as a politician but as a human being.
I have wondered why republicans salivate over Reagan, who was a bad actor, a terrible president, and I have to give him credit for completing the corruption of the republican party, lets face it, the republican party has always been corrupt.
But I understand now that I am reading Roosevelt's biography why republicans don't embrace him. Roosevelt despised corruption, he despised hypocrites, he understood about the corruption and the danger the 1% represented to the country, he was a true progressive, all traits that the new republican party cannot represent. Roosevelt also hated ignorant and stupid people, he would have punched the lights out of not only the buffoon trump, but Jordan, McConnell and more. Roosevelt was also a brave man, he fought a war for the liberation of Cuba, he was a scholar, writing many books on nature, history, politics.
Anyway, republicans cannot admire someone like Roosevelt because it will shame them to find that they are not worthy of even licking his boots.
So...to the topic at hand...yes, AOC should embrace some of what Schmidt proposes but she needs to stay true to herself, to not allow anyone to derail her, she needs to keep her principles intact. I believe she has the potential to become president one day, and she needs to stay on course. Yes, she needs to learn because at the end of the day it all amounts to ones ability to negotiate.

In 2004, he was a member of the senior strategic planning group, led by White House adviser Karl Rove, that ran President George W. Bush's re-election campaign; Schmidt oversaw the reelection "war room".[19] In 2005 and 2006, he was the White House strategist responsible for the U.S. Supreme Court nominations of Samuel Alito[25] and Chief Justice John Roberts.[19]"
