I talk to Republicans. I have the feeling they are not understanding what is going on.
Some of them do. Very well indeed.

(3,401 posts)trump and his family will be facing, and instead they talk as if it is a done deal that trump, or jr, will be running in 2024 taking 3/4 of the GOP with them. I am OK with some trumper starting a new party, and taking 3/4 of the GOP with them, I believe that would guarantee a win for Democrats in Congress, Senate and the reelection of Joe Biden.
But again, my initial point. Is it that these people believe the trumps will not face consequences for their crimes? That bothers me.

(17,645 posts)he wants the Democratic Party to move more to the center. The center of politics in the country is extreme right a la Raygun, etc. To paraphrase Gore Vidal the US goes in circles because it has 2 right wings. Beware of sheep in wolf's clothing.

(9,294 posts)I've listened to the Lincoln Project people carefully.
If I thought they were really interested in Democratic Party policy debates, then being on the left of the party, I would be more than wary of them.
The Lincoln project are anti-fascist conservatives, ideologically close to CDU/CSU in Germany. They would not use those terms, but the core group can see the real and present danger that the authoritarian state represents to the United States. It is one election away.
At the moment we are against it. The GOP is evolving into a genuine fuck-the-rule-of-law RW movement. What the LP wants allies to stand up for Democracy. They did not envisage a huge role for the PAC after the election, but as Dylan wrote, 'times have changed'.
Rick Wilson wrote a whole book about how an Elizabeth Warren type candidate could be elected in 2020 - and the myriad of traps to avoid.
Honestly, I do not see the Lincoln Project as a ginger group bent on prodding Dems to the right. They are just not that into us.
