Underestimation Of Trump Mob's Violence More Than Mere 'Intelligence Failure' - Rachel Maddow MSNBC

Rachel Maddow argues that there was sufficient public information ahead of the January 6th riot at the Capitol to recognize the threat, so explaining Capitol security's lack of preparedness as an intelligence failure doesn't confront the real reason the pro-Trump mob's capacity for violence was underestimated. Aired on 02/23/2021.

They were understaffed, under-armed, and under informed because law enforcement is on the side of the same people who did this insurrection. These are the people who swear fealty to the police. (They don't mean it, but they are very public about doing it). These are the ones who always say, "If you didn't do anything...". Law enforcement is on their side. Their departments are those who are 'supported' by these same people. Their reaction was minuscule because they did not want to do anything about any of it. (Now, once that officer died, and those others got injured, I suspect a few of the ground forces started to realize those people are not on their side unless said officers are arresting Glorious Leader's enemies and any non-whites that happen to be around.) When I saw the officers holding the doors for the insurrectionists to just waltz out, I knew what was going on. Heads should roll over this. And, I am not being metaphorical.

Most notably Eugene Goodman, without whose courage in misleading the mob, there could well have been more injuries and even deaths among our members of Congress. I'm all for an in depth investigation into the details of all that transpired and learning exactly who was culpable - and heroic.

And, the fact that there were obviously more 'villains' than 'heroes' that day makes me sick to my stomach. As you said, we need to know both sides, so we can reward those heroes who stood up to criminal insurrection, and those who supported it. Not holding my breath, but this needs to happen.

As with the 9/11 and Warren Commissions - and the advances in technology should ensure more conclusive and complete results. And this was not a foreign power, but U.S. citizens who orchestrated this and carried it out.

Of course, to do this is to expose more than some criminal citizens, it would expose the traitorous nature of more than a few sitting governmental officials. And, they are not going to go down without a fight. And, as we sadly now know, they have an mob at their disposal. Look, I want so badly for there to be real consequences over what happened on the 6th, but I have also lived through the last 40 years and 'consequences' are a thing that only the 'non-white/non-elite' citizenry experience.

On an unrelated note, I have to admit... every time I read one of your posts, I hear it in Stevie's voice. Which is awesome.

And not only do the elected officials owe allegiance to that contract they swore to, but also to their constituents who trusted them to represent their interests. The ordinary citizens who took part obviously broke laws and should face repercussions, but those who led them on were aware of the consequences - and I'm also referring to the inciter-in-chief who has never faced the consequences of anything. I have Mary Trump's book.

And thanks! I'm obviously also a long-time fan, though I chose the name not only in honor of Stevie, but also her namesake.
