(2,868 posts)but this needs to be treated like the frog in the pot, when it comes to Manchin and the rest. Just talk about DC for now, with no mention of Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands.
There's always been a case for DC statehood, with more people living in DC than in either Vermont or Wyoming, and the residents pay more in federal taxes than 20 other states.
But now, there's the added security issue, in that if DC was a state on Jan 6th, the mayor could have called the governor, and DC national guard troops could have been on the scene in minutes, instead of hours later thanks to Donnie blocking their deployment.
Once you have two additional Dem Senators, THEN it would be easy to make Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands states.
