Related: About this forumLast Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) - Tucker Carlson
Tucker Carlson is admired by white nationalists, elected officials, and maybe some of your relatives or coworkers. Given that he has the ear of so many Americans, John Oliver explains where Tucker came from, what his rhetorical tactics are, and what he represents.

Thanks for your faithful late night posts!

(205,839 posts)And you're more than welcome. I know that a lot of DUers don't stay up as late as I do and they may not have cable - or even TV - so they always know they can find the late night political shows right here on DU!

All the late night posters and MIRT do great work here.

I wish more people would talk about how Tucker successfully defended himself by arguing in court that his audience doesn't expect the truth from him.

(205,839 posts)And that's an interesting point. Has Tucker Carlson ever taken anything he says seriously? I'm sure that most DUers remember the drubbing he took from Jon Stewart on "Crossfire" back in the day, but who here remembers that he used to have a show on MSNBC with Rachel Maddow as his sometime "sidekick," straightening him out on a regular basis?! I just watched this and they were so friendly!

(61 posts)In the school I attended growing up, guys like him could count on getting the shit knocked out of him at least twice a week. There were others at St Mark's who were bullied, and most of them didn't deserve it. Snotty little bastards like TC, however, were an exception!

(3,401 posts)He should be completely ignored, he now knows he can say anything because, as his lawyers put it in his defense, he is not a serious news person, he is an "entertainer", a bad one at that, but nonetheless a clown.

(17,390 posts)That is the amazing power of racism. It can convince members of the working class that entitled folks like Trump and Carlson who grew up with a silver spoon in their mouth can relate to and cares about their needs and that working class and middle class Democratic Presidents like President Obama and President Biden are elitists.
