Underground: The Julian Assange Story (2012)
Very surprising that nobody has posted it on DU yet. It is based on the same title book "Underground" co-written by Assange himself long ago. The movie is made very well, good actors, good script, good music etc. It was aired in Australia a few days ago and I think more than a million people have watched it. According to Christine Assange (mom ) the depiction of Julian is very authentic while she was not happy about how she herself was portrayed. Many real life Australian hackers are also depicted in the movie. I think you all enjoy watching it.

... Mr Day claimed the attack on the US military database Milnet a major plot point in the critically acclaimed telemovie that screened on Ten on Sunday night never happened, and added that had Julian Assange really been on the trail of evidence that the US had deliberately targeted civilians in Operation Desert Storm his team would have known about it.
"The facts are that the AFP found no evidence of any such event," Mr Day, who left the force 12 years ago, told The Age. "We had intercepts on his telephone lines so we captured everything he did on his computer. We also captured all his verbal communications on the telephone. On top of this we gathered all of the evidence from his house" ...
"Assange was not prosecuted for breaking into any Milnet system that contained information on military targets as there was no evidence that it occurred and we had a lot of evidence," Mr Day said ...
Another title card at the end notes that in 2010 Wikileaks "released the Afghan and Iraq War Logs, over half a million field reports and communications by the US Military. It was uncannily similar to the material <Assange had> first seen as a teenager 20 years before" ...

Writer-director Robert Connolly said in an interview earlier this month his film was a "hypothesised" look at what the WikiLeaks rogue was like as a teenager ...
"Because only a small amount of the book was about (Assange) we just had to use that as the facts and fill the drama around it ...

Julian Assange Has Book Deal
By JULIE BOSMAN
Published: October 8, 2012
The publisher OR Books announced on Sunday that it had acquired Cypherpunks, a new book about freedom and the Internet by Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. Mr. Assange, who was granted asylum at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London in August, wrote the book with three other authors: Jacob Appelbaum, Jérémie Zimmermann and Andy Müller-Maguhn. The book will go on sale Nov. 26 in paperback and as an e-book. Mr. Assange said in a statement that he wrote the book in response to his longstanding worries about government control of the Internet and surveillance. In March 2012 I gathered together three of todays leading cypherpunks to discuss the resistance, he said. Two of them, besides myself, have been targeted by law enforcement agencies as a result of their work to safeguard privacy and to keep government accountable. Their words, and their stories, need to be heard.

... Mr Assange signed a contract with Canongate Books to write a book "part memoir, part manifesto" but "after sitting with a ghost writer for more than 50 hours of taped interviews, he decided he wanted to cancel the contract" ...
In a report, the company's chairman Sir Christopher Bland said the loss was "largely attributable to Julian Assange's failure to deliver the book he had contracted to produce, and we were unable to obtain repayment from him of Canongate's substantial advance, which had to be written off".
The advance is said to be more than £500,000 ...
