(1,439 posts)They're called ASIC miners. ASIC stands for application specific integrated circuit. Other types of cryptocurrency use graphics cards to mine but bitcoin has been on bitcoin specific processors since early last decade.

Bitcoin needs to be paying huge environmental damage fees every day, as they're producing no products or services to benefit mankind yet burning many gigawatts of power (over 70 terawatt-hours per year) and exhausting huge amounts of heat into our environment.
