Is The Republican Party Beyond Saving? - The Mehdi Hasan Show

For some reason, a large portion of the GOP is hell-bent on forgetting about Jan. 6, even denying an insurrection ever occurred. This, from the party that brought you Blue Lives Matter and who campaigned on a message of ‘law and order.’ Never-Trump conservative Mona Charen and liberal media critic Eric Boehlert join Mehdi to discuss some of the absurd talking points being tossed around after the first Jan. 6 hearing. Aired on 07/28/2021.

Saving this horrid party wouldn't be something I would ever be concerned about.

Seriously, I think it should be designated a domestic terrorist organization.

Though I somehow doubt his Republican credentials since during the last election we both worked on a mutual friend to vote for the Democratic candidate for mayor of the nearby city instead of the Green Party candidate like she planned. That's one...

I don't know why the anti Trumpers in the party don't just leave and form their own new conservative party.

Now there is so much capital in the world, unutilized capital - idle labor, money, physical capital - it's difficult to see how piling up more capital through more exploitation will yield much benefit. When your financial underpinnings are gone, you're gone.

and I have to think he drew right wing assholes from all over the west. It showed me that the negative energy among fascists is not spent and ready to go.

However, the question is whether the Republican Party can survive it. I think not, they've made too many dirty deals with too many devils since the end of WWII to grab and keep power--then too few deals with people who know how to use power ro run the country effectively.

They might have survived Nixon and the southern bigots. There is no way they can continue to survive Reagan's Evangelicals. Evangelicals are incapable of reason and compromise, which means they are incapable of governing except by dictatorship.

And that is where they're at right now.

It's just appalling to think that is their best choice for dictator.
