Nance kicks Shapiro's ass, figuratively.

(33,643 posts)and disingenuous at the same time.
The fact that 'that's Texas' is actually pretty friggin important due to the fact that this state largely gets to define what is in the mass-market textbooks for the whole US. Can't just discount it like Maher does.
Malcolm really never got a chance to define the REAL issue here, which is that 'CRT' is being defined as terrible by the right, and then used as an excuse to avoid or even ban ... teaching the truth about racial history.
Mostly cause Shapiro wouldn't let him talk (and also Bill to a lesser extent).

CRT is taught in law school, not public schools. Republicans, Shapiro included, have hijacked the term and claim it's being taught in public schools to make white students feel guilty about being white.
Nothing is further from the truth. Racism, enslavement, the jim crow era and the resulting effects all that has on African Americans still today is continually whitewashed from public education, which is why Malcolm Nance simply said, "teach actual history". Meaning of course, don't whitewash it.
I agree Shapiro is a sniveling, annoying brat, but he totally got owned in that argument.

(33,643 posts)What 'crosses the line' into 'banned CRT' vs. 'History'?
The real problem (well, from our side ... it's the intended effect from their side) is that this will effectively result in a gag-order on teaching anything about the US's racist history because you can't really be certain that what you're talking about cannot be considered 'CRT' by someone who wants to screw you over.
Esp. if there's a ban in Texas, who get to decide what's in so many of the country's textbooks.

(53,971 posts)as teacher, being uncertain as to what can be taught, will just avoid teaching it all together. Which is what republicans want as all that party is about is creating wedge issues to divide people. They have no policy positions, other than tax cuts for the rich and obstruction of Democrats actual policy goals which help the average American.

I agree with you that CRT is not exactly up Nance's alley but he held his own against the annoying Shapiro.
One of the originators of the theory would been better but who knows, there might have been availability/scheduling problems.
