we can do it
(12,184 posts)He explains things very well. There are many simple graphic explanations. Jackasses would prefer to listen to convoluted conspiracy crap, which is not simple to follow, than accept fact.

(205,320 posts)Poor Dr. Fauci seems to be spending all his time appearing on news shows these days, explaining much the same issues over and over. If only people took him seriously and listened from day #1, but we know why that happened. His original "news conferences" about the pandemic were upstaged by narcissist-in-chief who used valuable time, when he should have been alerting and informing the nation, to talk about himself.

How many times do people need to hear facts?

(790 posts)I always feel encouraged by Dr Fauci's observations. On CNBC a WHO epidemiologist, Larry Brilliant, was interviewed about the Delta variant. Some of his remarks were interesting, to say the least. Some major takeaways, which when you think about it, shouldn't surprise anyone. But the point regarding the need to vaccinate those 65 and older who have compromised immune systems was mind-blowing:
* The pandemic isn't coming to an end anytime soon -- given that only a small proportion of the world population has been vaccinated against Covid-19. Only 15 percent of the world population has been vaccinated and more than 100 countries have inoculated less than 5 percent of their people. (Basically, we're still at the beginning of the beginning.)
* The Delta variant is "maybe the most contagious virus" ever.
* One group of people need "booster shots" right away: those who are 65 years and above and were fully vaccinated more than six months ago, but have a weakened immune system. It is within this category of people that the virus creates multiple mutations as it goes through the body. (It is as if the virus uses these people as experimental Dr. Frankenstein labs.) Such people with weakened immune systems include cancer, HIV patients, or those who have had organ transplants. In general they do not produce an adequate immune response after receiving two does of the Covid vaccine.

(205,320 posts)It's essential that we make every effort to keep up, the situation in this country has become so dire. Dr. Fauci deserves enormous credit for continuing to get out there and keep us up to speed - in the face of the threats he receives from those who choose to cling to the misinformation and deadly lies perpetrated by the previous administration.
