Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - 8/13/21

Monologue: Tone Def

Bill recaps the top issues of the week, including NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo's resignation and the backlash to former President Obama's big birthday bash.

Steve Martin & Martin Short

Actors, comedians and co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short join Bill to discuss their new show, “Only Murders in the Building” and the last acceptable prejudice in America.

Books That Didn't Age Well

Andrew Cuomo's book about leadership lessons didn't age well, but neither did some of these other titles.

New Rule: Leave Matt Damon Alone

Bill gives some advice to Matt Damon, who is often caught in cancel culture quicksand: stop hunting for good will, you’re not gonna find much in this country.

Here's a "bootleg" version of the show which includes the entire interview with Steve Martin and Martin Short (5:01), entire panel discussion with Donna Brazile and Michael Moynihan (18:33) and the opening part of New Rules (46:17). It won't last long, as usual:

I though the interview with Martin & Short was interesting. And Bill was right, Steve has always looked like that it's like he doesn't age.

I thought that was horrible and he made it worse saying "shut up." Violence against women is a big part of the right wing's attitudes against women's rights. I wonder what is the matter with Maher that he felt compelled to say that?

This is the thing about Maher. He's fine until he gets to women's rights and there you are, feeling like you want to scream at him. Smh...

7. I think it is the toxic masculinity thing. He wants to be more Alpha. It's a complex.

I stopped watching him around the time he started having right wingers on. His interviews were too...convivial for my liking. That, and his incessant whining about CA red tape.

I don't even think I can stomach watching this video just from the comments I am reading.

Cheers!

Monologue, comedy bit, and New Rules were good as usual.

And I agree about the panel, Donna Brazile didn't get the other guy get much in and I couldn't help wondering if she'd already sampled some of that liquor they mentioned. despite what she said. And I usually like her. But the rest of the show was as good as usual.
