is being hit hard. We have no covid beds left in the hospitals and not enough staff to tend to the patients. I had PT yesterday and my therapist said she would be working today and tomorrow as a CNA at the hospital to help them out. They are having to grab any warm body who can help in any capacity.

Yet today our annual fair opened! It is beyond my comprehension why they didn't cancel it. It will be packed with people crowded together and no mask mandate. Our stores and restaurants are packed, and hotels are booked. No one thought this through or else they are total idiots.

I will be staying home.

We did so well in the beginning, turning the numbers around after the virus hit the coast from overseas. And starting early on there was a mask mandate to enter every grocery, pharmacy, gas station, bank, any business at all - and it was enforced. Plus, there were one-way aisles in stores and six-foot "social distancing" lines at every checkout. There was also a quarantine last year for anyone entering the state and everything closed down. This is a big summer tourist area and nothing was open.

But this year it's all changed, just in time for "tourist season." Everything's open and the mask mandate was rescinded as of July - for those who are vaccinated. So it's now the "honor system," and there's rarely a mask in sight. And of course the tourists are back. When I've driven up north (Lake George) I see that the sidewalks are packed like a typical summer and I've seen license plates from as far away as Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia. North Carolina, Alabama, Utah!

We have had Covid cases in the local hospital, yet vaccinations still aren't mandated for health care workers there even though they we were the first to be offered the vaccine back in January and they were offered a $100 bonus to drive an hour downstate to a major hospital to get the Pfizer. I have friends who work there - one in the ER - who were the first I knew to get vaccinated.

So I'm not optimistic about what the fall and winter may bring - after the tourists leave, the schools open and people move inside again. Last year masks were required in all the schools, I'd see even the youngest kids getting off the school bus wearing masks. But even so, there were several outbreaks in local schools prompting shutdowns. And with this year's Delta variant, plus the out-of-state crowds and no more public mask mandate, things don't look good here, either.

most people didn't think they had a good enough reason to inconvenience themselves by getting a couple of shots and spending a couple of days feeling shitty. The smarter ones have that reason now. The dumber ones will need to face vax mandates at work, get the jab or no more job.

And her take on getting vaccinated and taking precautions was "If I die, I die." I wanted to tell her that it's not quite as simple as that. I'm guessing that she's never seen the news about those in the ICU now begging for the vaccine. She seems to think her death would be like snuffing out a candle. *sigh*

tell me it's a pretty miserable way to go, horrible pain and not being able to move any air in or out, panic setting in.

It would be different if they offered palliative care, if mine had turned bad I might have gone in for that, but they're still trying to save all lives and the process is agonizing.

And I'm so very sorry that you got sick. That's the thing, because of those who refuse to get vaccinated or take any precautions, even those who are vaccinated and careful are getting sick, too. I went to a family funeral yesterday, my Dad's cousin got Covid - and she was fully vaccinated. Her family still has no idea how or where she got it

they could shoot up a gram of pure fentanyl, and if they die.... c'est la vie? God shouldn't make the fentanyl so pure, I guess.

It's very difficult for me to make sense of religious dogma in the first place, but when they go adding bat-shit crazy stuff like this to the equation...... forget it. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
