The U.S. is seeing its highest Covid infection surge in six months due to the Delta variant. The Biden administration is expected to recommend booster shots for most Americans to help protect against the surge. MSNBC Science Contributor Laurie Garrett tells Lawrence O’Donnell, “The United States is a breeding ground for new forms of virus because we have a substantial percentage of our population that is not vaccinated.” Aired on 08/16/2021.

2. The thing is, I can't see this happening immediately

As far as I know, the vaccine wasn't available 8 months ago. The first people I knew to be vaccinated were my two friends who work in the local hospital - one in the ER - and they had to drive downstate to a major hospital to get the Pfizer in January. The rest of us had to wait until it was available locally and we were eligible. I got my first shot on the last day of February and I had to drive to a CVS south of here since appointments at the local pharmacy were immediately filled. So I wouldn't be eligible for a booster until the very end of November.
