@Lawrence
This is sheer madness. Vietnam was much worse. Sasse was 3 years old when we fled Vietnam and left thousands of Vietnamese allies behind. He literally doesn't know what he's talking about.

I remember seeing the helicopters taking off from the roofs of those buildings, but I had no idea what it was really about. Later on, I learned that those films I'd seen were of the last days of the Vietnam War, of which I knew little, except that it was a colossal mistake and it was very controversial.

The most important thing I learned about Vietnam back then was to watch what you said about it. You shouldn't go making comments about Vietnam if you didn't know what you were talking about, because it would make a veteran very upset and you would be left looking stupid. Sasse needs to watch his mouth. He wasn't there and he obviously knows little about the subject.

In Vietnam defecting troops (called chu hoi) were assigned to infantry companies to lead combat platoons. My brother had one who walked point but oddly was never shot. He gave him some MREs, cash, and a Buck Knife to undefect-which he did. If you deal with the destitute they are yours until a better deal comes along...
