(205,320 posts)I know that a lot of DUers don't stay up as late as I do - and not everyone has cable or even TV now. So I started posting Colbert regularly in early 2017 since it sure helps, especially at that time, to have some humor with the news. And Colbert sure keeps up with the news.

(205,320 posts)As I said, you're exactly who I post this for. I started posting his monologue in 2017 when I couldn't stand watching the regular news, and I know that not everyone stays up as late as I do, so I figured that morning people would appreciate Colbert's news combined with humor (and sometimes his monologues make the news, too. ).

(349 posts)Everyone interested in the current state of Afghanistan and how we got there should see that clip. Afghans knew America wouldn't stay, but they feel betrayed by how we're leaving and by how few concessions we got from (the former guy's) negotiations with the Taliban.

(205,320 posts)During the 2016 campaign I had trouble watching regular news since it was TFG and little else all the time. And that's where Stephen Colbert came in, he kept up with the news, but with humor and his own perspective. I started posting his monologues in early 2017 for exactly that reason, and, if anything, he's gotten better. I remember one time when there was breaking TFG news right while he was taping that night's monologue (first visit to North Korea), so he abandoned the scripted monologue and ad libbed the rest. He's not just a great comedian, but he's also a news junkie like many on DU.
