Rep. Katie Porter Talks Holding Acting Officials Accountable - with Ethics Expert Walter Shaub

No one should get to serve in a top government job without proper vetting. During the last administration, some officials worked for months—even years—without ever being confirmed by Congress.

Rep. Katie Porter talked with ethics expert Walter Shaub about her bill to prevent this in the future.

I defer to her judgement on all matters political, until such time as that position becomes ill-advised.

A scenario I consider highly unlikely to occur, but a possibility that must be allowed for

I didn't know that Katie Porter was working on this bill but we saw with trump that it is very necessary.

who need Senate approval. It’s now in the thousands and simply takes too long. The rules should also not allow Senators (like Cruz) to hold up a nominee not because of questions about the person’s qualifications but because of disagreement over a president’s unrelated policy.

The other way. He chose cronies that were unqualified who he knew would never be approved by any Congress, so he just left them at "acting" to get around it. We can't let that happen again, they did damage that we'll be dealing with for years.

Appointees of elected officials must be accountable to the public. It's not a matter of voluntary vs forced submittal to accountability that is at issue. It is, instead, the unavoidability of accountability and assured consequences for malfeasance in office. Derailing this fundamental element nullifies the people's trust in government specifically and, thus, generally. The certainty, this aspect of inevitability has been lost in so many translations over the years. So many "time-outs" and slapped hands later, criminals have gotten downright bold. What was assumed, need now be ensured.

Oh human nature, alas, you do so readily make citizens terrible and terrible citizens, too.

I'd have a team with Elizabeth Warren, Katie Porter, AOC, each with their unique leadership abilities to clone.
I know others belong on the team, just haven't had my coffee yet.
