Rachel Maddow reports on the state of Alaska shifting all of its hospitals to crisis standards of care, making it the second state to do so after Idaho, and explains that this designation means that unvaccinated Covid patients are using up hospital resources that now cannot be fully deployed to save non-Covid patients. Aired on 09/22/2021.

(205,507 posts)It is not simply a "personal" decision for someone to refuse a lifesaving vaccine. When they get sick, as they have been, and overwhelm hospitals now in Utah and Alaska, they are sentencing those patients who need other non-Covid lifesaving treatments to death because there is no room at the hospitals. So there is nothing "personal" about these selfish decisions.

(32,778 posts)Waited 6 hours to be seen in the ER. Is currently in a bed in the hallway near the nurses station. This is central Illinois..no crisis setting yet declared here.
Please everyone stay safe...stay well!

(205,507 posts)Though I do remember circumstances in the past when patients were kept in the corner of the hall while waiting for a room to open up. However, if it's ICU, that explains while he's near the nurses' station. Just be grateful that he's in Illinois, it's Utah and Alaska that currently have these crises. I hope that his situation is only temporary.

(205,507 posts)Rachel reported on this earlier this week. Since Alaska is so spread out and largely rural, the main hospital in Anchorage is quite large and people come there from all over the state. And that's the one that's over capacity due to the unvaccinated getting so sick that they need to be hospitalized.

(205,507 posts)They have been completely overwhelmed, both with space and staff. And the facility in Alaska is huge, it's the main facility in the state.
