Al Franken wants Democrats to get as tough as Republicans and describe the infrastructure bill for what it does.

(20,491 posts)Franken, despite ANY personal cost to himself, did what he thought was best for the party. I disagreed then and now, but he did not slink away. He did what he thought was best for the Democratic Party and our goals
knowing (surely) there would be sentiments such as yours, knowing there would be those saying he was guilty, knowing he would lose the opportunity to use his wit and intelligence to influence the senate.
But he did that as sacrifice, not slinking away.

(1,356 posts)starting with "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot". He did slink away, and it shocked me then and quite frankly I have never recovered. He knew better than most what the Republican's were capable of and what they were up to, he'd been warning us for decades, that's why he ran for and became a beloved Senator. He did not do what was best for the Democratic Party and he did not sacrifice! Don't tell me it's a "disgusting take on the situation"! Al Franken should have stood up, not stepped down! Al Franken should have been the "stone cold killer" he's asking us to be now.

(7,895 posts)Never gave him his day in court, nor a means to respond, nor the option to prove his case. They treated him like he was TLG or Brett Kavanaugh, or any GOP known abuser.
At a point when such distinction mattered they gang-rushed him out the door. Our oh-so-woke and noble party, our sainted leaders did that to one of our best based on FACEBOOK, Twitter, and other social media rather than find out facts. Among other sins they thought the MSM had the whole story.
Roger Stone and Vlad Putin must have had quite a long laugh over that.
I will never forget that moment when the FOOLS turned in panic and shoved one of our best out of the Senate. Nor will I forget how the progressives were shoved out of the party in 2016. Some of the so-called moderates have much to answer for one day as do certain party leaders.
I've watched the nearly endless retrenchment from the days of Gingrich when so many in our party thought we had to bend over backwards to accommodate GOP demands. Our leaders gave up so much ground that was paid for in blood because they weren't willing to fight and because they badly underestimated the RW Machine.
This ends now or we might as well pick another continent and national home and stop pretending that some among our leadership want more than a comfortable payoff along with the pretense that "we'll get-em the next time." There isn't gonna be any kind of next-time if we don't stop them NOW.
I believe Joe sees this but some of the party regulars aren't convinced it is just that dire. They'd like to soft-pedal through until...and we shouldn't be beastly to those on the other side of the aisle, just in case.

How utterly ridiculous is that?
He's right -- Democrats must get much tougher.

I think the emphasis is is wrong, specifically on the idea that we need to be stone cold killers.
We cannot be something we are not.
However, Al has taken us a step forward by stating what we are dealing with. We need to acknowledge that these people, republicans, are not normal. They are an aberrant form of being that resembles humans but in fact lack the essential qualities that make us human.
Nancy, I think, realizes this. Probably our representative from Maryland, Jamie. It is very rare to have an entire party of deficient, even evil beings. A strategy needs to be decided upon.
