Ali Velshi on Why Journalists Must Protect and Defend Democracy - iGen Politics Podcast

MSNBC's Ali Velshi join Jill Wine-Banks and Victor Shi to talk about his childhood, his career in journalism, how he approaches journalism, and his advice for those in Gen Z who aspire to become journalists. Why won't Ali talk with liars? What is the role of journalists when American democracy is so fragile? How does he promote facts against the backdrop of rampant mis- and disinformation?

Ali was born in Nairobi, raised and began his career in Canada, moved to the US where he was CNN’s Chief Business Correspondent, and anchor of CNN’s Your Money as well as a co-host of CNN’s international weekly business show World Business Today. In 2013, he joined Al Jazeera America and hosted Ali Velshi on Target until 2016 when Ali became a senior economic and business correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC where he has also had multiple roles, including co-anchor of the Velshi and Ruhle show with Stephanie Ruhle, host of his own daytime show called MSNBC Live with Ali Velshi, and now hosting a two-hour weekend show called “Velshi.”
